I know that the newer 07 impala SS from chevy has a front wheel drive v8. Just wanting some opinions on what everyone thinks about using this engine. Seems like it would be a good idea to tear the front end of one of these cars apart and use the drivetrain.

Any ideas??

I used a NorthStar in my Roadster. The same concept as the Fiero. A front wheel drive car with the engine shifted to the back.

The new front drive LS4 V8s are very similar to the LSx rear drive engines. There are a couple guys already swapping them into Fieros. I think it's a great idea.

I wouldn't waste my time and money on that engine cause by the time you get it, find away to use a transalxe for it and such you could have had a pretty well done LT1 engine built up.

Not that you asked for it, but here's my opinion

If it's going in a fiero, I'd do the 3800sc for simplicity and power
if it's longitudinal tube frame I'd do either a subaru EZ36D
or a Lexus 1uzfe DOHC 32v 4.0 V8.
EAMartin makes adapters for both to audi/porsche trans

both complete running warrantied engines can be purchased for under $1000 with 40,000 miles (JDM)
they both produce over 300+hp bone stock with only headers, rev to 8000rpm
a universal ecu will run either for about $1300
they are a "singel-plane-crank" made identical to a ferrari 360 and F430 V8s
so they sound exotic and nothing like lopey American V8s with DP cranks.
there is also a big aftermarket of cheap performance parts.
and newer import engines run forever without issues.

The 1uzfe can make 400hp on pump gas for about $5000
check out lextreme.com you can get a race shortblock shipped for about 3k
look at the throttle response with $900 OBX ITBs like a real diablo v12 (ITBs for a LS1 3x the cost)

at first I was overwhelmed by the complexity of a DOHC 32v V8, but they are so cheap, im relaxed
Also lexus got road and track best engine of the year 6 years in a row with the 1uz

The transmissions that come with the LS4 have been problematic. It isn't a matter of if they will fail but when. That engine can be adapted to other transmissions but it isn't really worth it as there are better choices. The LS4 is a 5.3 liter. I have done a couple of adapters for them to the Audi and Porsche transmissions.
